76-year-old Custodian to Attend First Cougar Football Game in Over 25 Years – Compliments of BYU Ballroom Dancers
A 76-year-old BYU custodian will be the most excited fan in LaVell Edwards Stadium at BYU’s last home game Saturday night against New Mexico State. Val Christiansen, of Orem, Utah, hasn’t seen a live BYU football game in over 2 decades. Yet he’s been cheerfully cleaning and waxing the very floors that are walked on by Cougar football players, coaches and cheerleaders in the physical education building on campus for the last four years.

Dance student opens windows to the world
Dance Education Major Kelli Briggs began her college career at Dixie State University. Briggs attended DSU on scholarship as a dancer, but took a break from school when she realized she wanted to study dance education and that wasn’t available at Dixie.

The Department of Dance, School of Music, Music Dance Theatre Program and Department of Theatre and Media Arts celebrated graduates during a combined convocation in the de Jong Concert Hall on April 22, 2016. The gathering commenced with Dean Ed Adam’s welcome followed by a trombone and piano duet by Lyman Keil McBride and Alissa Marie Freeman. Elizabeth Lloyd Lowe will give her speech on “The Power of Communication” before a musical performance by MDT students and a dance number by dance students. Jeremy Grimshaw presented the master’s degrees and Shayla Bott, Jeffrey Shumway and Stephanie Breinholt presented the graduates.

Chinese Education Administrators Join BYU for Two-Week Workshop
We are excited to announce that the Department of Dance and the School of Music at BYU will co-host educational administrators from all over China for a two-week arts leadership workshop. The workshop, entitled Exploring our Differences: The Nature of Education and Leadership in the Arts, will begin Monday, September 24. The Beijing Dance Academy will arrive on campus on Saturday, September 29 to participate and perform in the second week of the workshop.
