Nauvoo and Milwaukee Welcome the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble

Folk Dance Ensemble poses for a photo with the Public Affairs missionaries, Elder and Sister Porter, before leaving Nauvoo. After completing their second week of performing and outreach opportunities in Nauvoo and outlying towns, the International Folk Dance Ensemble traveled to Milwaukee, where they had the opportunity to perform a choreographic MFA thesis dance work by Jeanette Geslison at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The group performed at the majestic Bader Concert Hall on the UWM campus in front of dance professors, dance graduate students, friends, and family. Many of the audience members returned the next night when the ensemble performed at the Peck Pavilion at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, a covered outdoor venue located by the downtown Milwaukee River Walk. They performed the last tour show for a sold-out crowd, and had a particularly enthusiastic response from the local folk dance community.

BYU Ballroom Dance Company Wraps up Tour with sold-out Performances

The BYU Ballroom Dance Company wrapped up its final week of tour with a sold-out performance in London’s Mermaid Theatre. It was a fitting way to end a tour that attracted community members, religious leaders, and VIPs alike, including the Baroness of Winterbourne, the Ambassador of Honduras, and several members of Parliament. Having performed nearly every night for the past two weeks, the group now returns to campus for some well-deserved rest and recovery – proudly returning with their championship trophies from Blackpool.

International Folk Dance Ensemble Serve and Perform in Illinois

The city of Quincy, Illinois celebrated their Flag Day Festival and Lincoln in the District with the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble and Mountain Strings Saturday, June 11, 2016. Braving the 98 degree heat and high humidity, the group performed at mid-day in Washington Park. As part of the show, Mountain Strings performed the Illinois State Song, which received many positive accolades. After the performance people crowded around the performers. Audience members commented that “this was the best event of the entire day.” They could not stop praising the students.

American Folk Dance Ensemble performs in Burgos, Spain

It was the 39th annual festival in the city, which is a huge event with hundreds of volunteers, dancers and musicians. Each evening performance was for an audience of nearly 4,000 people, in addition to being broadcast live to three million viewers.

American Folk Dancers Now Head to Venice, Italy and Burgos, Spain

The American Folk Dance Ensemble performs for a large crowd in front of the theater in Karlovac. The Folk Dance Ensemble received boisterous applause from the audience at the opening ceremonies of the Karlovac Croatian Folk Dance Festival. Performing in a different village outside of Karlovac each evening throughout the week allowed the dancers and musicians to see the beautiful Croatian countryside and meet new people. They also had the opportunity to visit the famous Plitvice Lakes National Park, considered to be one of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe. The waterfalls and pristine lakes were breath-taking.
