Dance in Concert by BYU Contemporary Dance Theatre Feb. 11-13

The BYU Department of Dance will present this year’s Dance in Concert by BYU Contemporary Dance Theatre in the Pardoe Theatre of the Harris Fine Arts Center on Feb. 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Tickets are $12, with discounts available for senior citizens, alumni, students and employees. Tickets can be purchased in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422-2981 or online at byuarts.com.

Coming off of CDT’s 40th anniversary and summer tour to Europe, the company is delighted to present major choreographic works by nationally and internationally heralded dance creators Peter Chu, Garrett Smith, Kathleen Heremesdorf and Pearson Widrig, as well as our own faculty Caroline Prohosky, Nathan Balser, Graham Brown, and Joni McDonald.

The acclaimed student performers will present works from nationally heralded modern dance greats Sara Pearson, Patrick Widrig, Albert Mathias, Kathleen Heremesdorf and Peter Chu as well as BYU faculty Aubry Dalley. This concert will also showcase major choreographic works presented at the New Prague Dance Festival where Contemporary Dance Theatre took home the highest honor: the Grand Prix.

Artistic director, Nathan Balser was exited to create new works for the show and said that both he and Joni McDonald, the company’s assistant director, have taken a different approaches to this production than in the past as they worked with a variety of new voices.

“As a director, I see many benefits these dancers enjoy,” said Balser. “One of the greatest is working with and learning from current professional artists—to take part in creating and expressing the various messages or ‘voices’ of these choreographers.”

Contemporary Dance Theatre, formerly known as The Dancers’ Company, has delighted audiences since 1975 with its wide spectrum of dance styles that range from dramatic to comedic and lyrical to jazz.

A winner in the American College Dance Festival competition, the company has taught workshops and performed throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and internationally in Australia, East Asia, Israel, Turkey, South America and South Africa.
