Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Dance at Brigham Young University. We hope you will spend a few minutes with us and explore the many opportunities available in our dance program. The BYU Department of Dance provides a broad base for professional training both in the classroom and in the studio. A versatile undergraduate major program comprises three options: Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Dance; Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance Education; and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Music Dance Theatre. The BYU Department of Dance is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance.
Our Philosophy
The Brigham Young University Department of Dance is committed to preparing reflective, articulate dance artists, teachers, and scholars who honor and preserve the past, give voice to the present, and seek to define the future as it provides for study, research, experimentation, practice, performance, and the creation of new works. With the belief that dance, as an expression of art, is an optimal educational vehicle to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit, our work seeks to integrate the scientific, the historical, cultural, and the aesthetic, in theory and practice. We are dedicated to presenting wholesome dance to a global audience, generating interest and enthusiasm while maintaining the strictest of academic, moral, and performance standards. Dance at BYU emphasizes the philosophy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ". . . If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." —Articles of Faith #13
