dancEnsemble fall concert Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15 at 7:30 p.m.

Brigham Young University’s Department of Dance will present the dancEnsemble fall concert, “Only Now,” conceived and directed by Graham Brown, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard’s Building Auditorium. There will also be a 2:00 p.m. matinee Saturday, Nov. 15.

Tickets at $6 are available through the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center box offices, by telephone at (801) 422-4322 or online at arts.byu.edu.

Unlike many performing groups at BYU, the modern dance-based dancEnsemble focuses on presenting new student choreography through performances that aim to be fresh, diverse and led foremost by artistic voice. Instead of showcasing numerous short numbers, “Only Now” will present one continuous hour-long presentation.

Artistic director Graham Brown and his student collaborators began choreographing the production 10 weeks before opening night without any preconceived themes and instead relied on improvisational assignments to find the show’s narrative intent.

“Were it made with different people or within a different time period it would be a different work,” said Brown. “You are witnessing the encapsulation of these specific artists’ collective creative voice within this specific moment in time.”

The cast and collaborators for “Only Now” include Danielle Ashby, Meagan Barnes, Elise Beers, Lizzy Briggs, Katy Crowley, Mac Cruz, Nicole Dugdale, Whitney Ellis, Jonathan Fox, Chessa Hedman, Madeleine Homer, Tessa Homer, Brooklinn Hugie, Jessica Jackson, Michelle Leavitt, Katherine Ledbetter, Molly Mackenzie, Shelby Marsden, Naomi Tanner, Jenny Thomsen, Ben Wear and Jenni Zackrison

The technical crew for “Only Now” includes co-director Caroline Prohosky, composer Gavin Ryan, sound designer Troy Sales, costume designer Dawn Maugh, lighting designer Benjamin Sanders.
