About:
Kate Monson, Associate Professor of Dance and Faculty Affiliate of Gerontology, holds an MFA in choreography from Ohio State University, is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst (CLBMA) and is certified to teach Labanotation. She is invested in researching dance technique pedagogy and dance conditioning, constantly working to balance virtuosity and longevity. She is co-creator of Body and Brain (B2) Dance Specific Conditioning, b2conditioning.com, with Amy Markgraf (Professor of Dance, Utah Valley University). B2 specializes in creating personalized conditioning programs based on kinesiology and LMBA principles for the effective training and health of dancers. This work led to her interest in aging/ageism in dance resulting in the creation of the documentary And I Continue: A Conversation about Dance and Aging. Kate co-produces On Site Mobile Dance Series, a concert dance series produced in non-traditional spaces with Kori Wakamatsu (Associate Professor of Dance, BYU) and Ashley Anderson. She loves spending summers outdoors in the sun connecting with her lizard soul and eating popsicles with her four children and husband, Quin, who is an Associate Professor in the Political Science Department at BYU.
