Ballroom Dance students prepare for professional teaching, competition and performing careers. With an acclaimed medalist program providing regular adjudication by national and international judge and as an accredited dance major, the ballroom emphasis allows students to receive beginning through advanced training in American and International styles of Standard Ballroom and Latin American Dance. With more than 4,000 students enrolling in ballroom dance classes each year, this university program is the largest of its kind.

Students have several on-campus opportunities for performance, including the BYU and United States DanceSport Championships and the annual Ballroom in Concert.

The BYU Ballroom Dance Company tours nationally and internationally and has traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, the South Pacific, Australia, and to the Far East, entertaining audiences of all ages. The company is the undefeated U.S. Formation Champion and has won the prestigious British Formation Championships numerous times.

All courses offered in the Ballroom program are open to dance majors and non-dance majors. A ballroom minor is also available (16 credits).

No partner necessary. You will be dancing basic waltz and cha-cha.

There are three entrance level ballroom dance performing companies for which open auditions are held the first Thursday evening of Fall and Winter Semesters. These teams serve as an entrance into the Ballroom Dance performance program. If selected for the company, students must enroll in D-388R for team instruction. Other commitments are also necessary.

Auditions for touring and showcase company are open to company members only and take place at the end of the academic year.

Ballroom Dance Company

Championship formation dancing, breath-taking lifts and spins—all performed in a seemingly endless stream of shimmering costumes—no one does it better than the Ballroom Dance Company. The first Americans ever to win the prestigious British Formation Championships—a feat they have repeated an unprecedented ten times—the dancers have also competed in the World Formation Championships and have consistently earned top honors in the United States National Formation Championships.

The company has toured with its variety showcase of Latin and international dance styles—including waltz, samba, foxtrot, and hustle—throughout Europe, the Middle East, the South Pacific, eastern Asia, and the United States. They have also performed as special guest artists at ballroom dance competitions in China, Ukraine, and Hungary. And always, no matter where they perform, the Ballroom Dance Company dazzles and delights.
