Brent Keck joined the Department of Dance as a full-time faculty member in the Ballroom Area this Winter semester. Keck holds a master’s degree in dance from Brigham Young University and brings years of experience to the department.
In his new position, Keck will teach advanced level technical dance classes and formation teams. He will also be involved with the annual concert and competition organizations. His goals for this opportunity center around the students.
“Whether a student is interested in developing and improving their technical skills or fulfilling an experience through formation team dancing, I want to help them in those efforts,” Keck said.
He has been involved in competition ballroom dancesport for over 20 years. He and his wife achieved the championship title “Professional Rising Star Professional Latin Champions” multiple times throughout their professional lives. Keck also directed and choreographed for the BYU Youth Dancesport Formation Team. He also coached multiple dancesport couples, competing for national titles and is recognized by the National Dance Council of America as a “Championship” judge.
Keck looks forward to continuing his work with the largest ballroom dance program at a university level in the United States. According to him, the most unique part of the dance department at BYU is the strong level of support from the university leaders that allows dancers to travel abroad to share their talents while representing the university.
“We are unique because we have a strong focus on fundamental development which enhances the quality of our performing formation companies,” he said.
