Performing Groups




IFDE performs an extensive repertoire of dance and music from around the world in stunning traditional folk costumes. This program provides dancers with rigorous dance training in recreational and staged cultural dance. Performance opportunities for the IFDE are abundant, locally, nationally and internationally. Performance tours occur annually, which may include performances at international folk dance festivals or in professional concert venues. Full and half tuition scholarships are available to selected students who participate in this ensemble.

Living Legends captures the essence of ancient and modern culture in a celebration of Latin American, Native American, and Polynesian song and dance. Traditions come to life as talented descendants from these cultures blend authentic choreography, intricate costumes, and heart-pounding music into one captivating show. Members of this company also have the opportunity to travel in the US or abroad on tours during the summer months.

Traditionz, a folk dance performance outreach program, provides cultural education through dance assemblies at local Utah schools for children during the month of May. Members of this company also perform in folk dance concerts held on or off campus during the winter semester.

Each of the three world dance companies holds independent auditions.

International Folk Dance Ensemble

There are two beginning and one intermediate level Folk Dance Performing Ensembles for which auditions are held the first Wednesday evening of Fall and Winter Semesters. All auditioning students need to bring a partner. Students will be taught a variety of basic folk dance steps and combinations at the audition. If selected, enrollment in D-378R is required.

Auditions will be held the first Wednesday of fall semester at 6:30 pm in the Wilkinson Center Main Ballroom AND the first Wednesday of winter semester at 7:00 pm in 270/278 RB.

Auditions for the advanced levels are by invitation only.

Living Legends

An open house will be held for those considering auditioning on Wednesday, August 29 from 12-2 pm in room 1137 of the Richards Building. There you will be able to meet those in leadership and directorial positions and receive any further information or answers to questions that you might have concerning the group. Auditions are by invitation only during the fall semester. The group rehearses during winter semester in preparation for daily performances during the month of May.
