Broadway Revue’s ‘Landmark’ will pay tribute to Broadway legends

The Brigham Young University Interdisciplinary Music Dance Theatre (MDT) program presents presents Broadway Revue’s Landmark March 3-4 at 7:30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre of the Harris Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $6 and are available in person at the BYU Ticket Office in the Harris Fine Arts Center or Marriott Center, by phone at 801-422- 2981 or online at byuarts.com.

Landmark is a student production that pays tribute to many of the people and productions that have made Broadway legendary for people around the world. The show will feature ballads and show stoppers from a variety of shows including Into the Woods, Company, Singin’ in the Rain and Hamilton.

“The show is a celebration of the directors, composers, choreographers and actors who have made musical theatre what it is,” student director Cassie Austin-Taylor said. “We asked the entire MDT major to tell us who and what inspired them to pursue this career.”

Student directors Austin-Taylor and Kooper Campbell have been working on the show since July. In September the team of two cast the show and found approximately 40 Music Dance Theatre (MDT) students to assist them with choreographing, directing and staging the show. Austin-Taylor and Campbell supervised the production and also participated in choreographing, casting, running rehearsals, costuming and even secured copyright agreements.

“It’s a lot of work,” Campbell said. “But I know it’s going to be worth it and people are going to be really happy. We’re already having a really good time with rehearsals.”

Campbell said he fell in love with musical theatre when he saw a live musical for the first time and that has been an inspiration behind Landmark.

“We just really want people to be entertained and inspired—musical theatre lovers and people who aren’t familiar with musical theatre,” Campbell said.

All of the proceeds of this show go towards MDT scholarships.
