Young Ambassadors Featured on China’s CCTV News

The Young Ambassadors’ three-week tour of China is now a week underway, and already they have met with great success.

Among other tour highlights, this past week the Young Ambassadors tour was a featured segment on Culture Express from China’s CCTV News.

The spot featured clips from the current and past tours, along with an interview with Young Ambassadors’ director Randy Boothe.

“The BYU Young Ambassadors have been to 67 countries over the last 30-plus years, and it’s been very exciting to see how audiences respond to American music and dance,” said Boothe.

In addition to performing showtunes from musicals like Hairspray and Carousel as well as popular songs by Michael Bublé and Benny Goodman, the Young Ambassadors have also enjoyed adding local favorites to their show.

“We’re singing some Chinese songs that we know the audiences really love — and we love them too. It’s been a great experience to learn a little bit more of the Chinese culture,” Boothe related.

The Young Ambassadors’ 2013 tour will last from April 27 to May 20 and will include cities the group initially visited in 1979—Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong—and also Tianjin, Jinan, Hefei, and Xi’an.
